Wenge Wood Flooring

Comes from: Central Africa
Colour: very dark brown with lighter brown veins.
Strength: very strong
Texture: coarse
Hardness: very hard (Brinell Score of 4.7)
Durability: very good
Stability: stable if cured properly
Sustainability: has been reported to be endangered by IUCN, but plantation wood is available.

Like Ebony, this wood is now listed as endangered, although it is readily available and makes a good substitute for Ebony. It has a dark rich dramatic look to it, is popular for furniture and doors, and also makes an excellent durable wood floor. However this wood produces an irritating dust, and masks should be worn when cutting - something a lot of fitters are unaware of.
