Wood Flooring Panels: the Türgon difference
Our aged and distressed custom made panels are unique because of the extraordinarily detailed work that goes into their making. Apart from the cutting of the wood (which is done by machine), everything is done by hand. Aged and distressed panels are made in production first, then fitted with little disruption or finishing, whereas lacquered panels will be sanded and finished on site.
A bespoke service
Each piece of the panel is carefully selected and individually aged distressed and manipulated to your own precise specifications. The size, the depth, the colour, the amount of ageing and distressing, the type of oil or lacquer chosen, the cut of the log.
Custom made by craftsmen
The detail in the panel starts with careful cutting to make sure nothing actually fits too perfectly, whilst retaining the shape of the overall panel. Take a look at our hand made Panels de Versailles and you will notice the detail in the gentle distressing of each piece of the panel; 41 individual pieces in all, every one different. The solid pieces comprise a variety of different cuts of the log; crown sawn, quarter sawn, as well as different grades of wood, i.e both rustic and prime grades. The pieces are then glued together using traditional biscuit joints, a time consuming and labour intensive process. Closer inspection will reveal the tiny square wood pins, which are gently tapped and glued into place. Each pin is also individually made by hand. These panels really are an exact replica in almost every way.
Mix wood species for beautiful decorative panels
The beauty of using panels, either traditional or modern, laser cut or hand made, is the extraordinary variety of decorative effects you can create by simply mixing wood species and patterns together. Look at this beautiful laser cut border pattern using Wenge, Oak and Maple, with quarter sawn Oak finished in matt oil for the main floor.
Truly versatile wood flooring
Any wood - and any cut of wood - can be used for panels. Nothing is too extravagant or too simple; whether you're decorating a country cottage or renovating a stately period home, the limitless choice offered by panels means a superb wood floor to match any interior design.
And remember, because everything is hand made, the panels can be cut to any thickness to accommodate any type of room, from the living room to the conservatory. If you were aiming for a super smooth look in quarter sawn oak (an expensive cut of the log) then the panels would almost certainly be made from a 9mm overlay of solid wood, to save on costs. If you were looking for an aged and distressed panel, then you could easily jump to 20mm solid pieces of wood.
Because panels are made up of individual pieces, they are generally more stable, and therefore less likely to be affected by variations in temperature.
