Choosing a Hardwood Flooring Company

Choosing a Company

If you want to buy a floor from experts who understand wood then you need to make sure that you buy your floor from a company that supplies the floor and fits the floor. Only companies that fit floors can claim to be true experts in the field of hardwood flooring. They are the people who truly understand wood, it's properties and where it can all go wrong, so before choosing a company, you need to ask yourself a few questions.

1) Do I want an expert to supply and fit my floor: someone who will do all the work for me?

This means they will survey the site, measure up, deliver, install, guarantee both the materials and installation, and provide detailed instructions on how to look after the new floor.

We call this the all-inclusive package, and it's provided by specialist hardwood flooring retailers. It could well be the most expensive on paper, but does guarantee peace of mind; your floor will be installed by experts, craftsmen who fit hardwood flooring for a living. At Türgon we recommend this option.

2) Do I want to buy the flooring and have it installed by a floor fitter recommended by the supplier?

This option will be slightly cheaper. However, if you ever have a problem with your floor the supplier could blame the fitter and the fitter could blame the supplier - and you will be stuck with a floor that does not work.

3) Do I want my builder to supply and fit my floor?

Again this will be slightly cheaper, but make sure you find out who will be fitting the floor. Are they specialist hardwood floor fitters or are they just carpenters? A lot can go wrong with a hardwood floor if it's not fitted properly or if it is fitted in inappropriate conditions.

4) Do I want to buy the flooring and install it myself?

This will be by far the cheapest option, but only attempt this if you really know what you are doing. You may end up having to call in the experts to put it right. This can prove very costly indeed, and you will almost certainly end up paying more money than if you had gone for option one from the start.

And finally...

If you do choose to go with an all-inclusive package, then make sure that the company you choose is invoicing you for both the supply and the installation. There are many companies who claim to supply and install but although you pay them for the supply, you also then pay the fitters for the installation. This is in fact option two and should be reflected in the price. When you pay your deposit, make sure that you read the contract and check that it states that the price you are paying is an all inclusive supply and fit price. That way there will be no surprises when it is time to pay the balance.
